March 2020 - January 2022

UI/UX Designer & Founder

Customers need a dependable online destination to customize and purchase high-quality, stylish products at fair prices, enhancing their personal expression and gifting experiences.

"How might we create an online platform that offers personalized, high-quality, and fashionable products with a seamless custom design experience for fair prices to enhance individual expression and gifting?"

Project Background and Personal Journey

The inception of Printoonistic was a blend of vision and necessity, born during my university days when personal expression through products felt limited. As an influencer and content creator, I recognized the potential of an online space where quality meets personalization. The journey began with the desire to deliver not just products, but experiences that resonated on a personal level, embedding the essence of style and individuality into every item curated.

Navigating through the uncertainties of the pandemic, Printoonistic emerged as a beacon for those seeking to connect and express love through personalized gifts. The shift from concept to a successful e-commerce platform was a testament to understanding and catering to the latent needs of our community. Each feature and design choice was a reflection of the collective input from our budding customer base, ensuring that the platform was built on the foundation of customer-centric values and inclusivity.

Printoonistic's trajectory from an idea to a flourishing online store mirrors my own evolution as an entrepreneur and designer. It's more than a business; it's a narrative of overcoming challenges, embracing community feedback, and creating a shared space for self-expression. Each step in our growth has been a step towards redefining the e-commerce experience, ensuring that every customer journey is as unique and personal as the products they purchase.

PROBLEM

There’s a distinct need for an all-encompassing transportation app that not only simplifies commutes and deliveries but also empowers drivers with a zero-commission model, enhancing their earnings and commitment to providing superior service.

The current e-commerce landscape lacks a dedicated platform where creativity in personalization seamlessly intersects with the demand for quality and style in products. This gap is where Printoonistic steps in—bridging the divide with a user-friendly interface that transforms shopping into a personalized creative process.

Reflecting on the transformative journey of yoga's acceptance, Printoonistic envisions a similar evolution for personalized online shopping. It aims to shift from a niche to a staple in consumer habits, making custom design as ubiquitous as the neighborhood yoga studio.

The void in the market is clear: consumers want more than just products; they desire a participative experience in crafting these goods. Printoonistic's mission is to provide that by integrating intuitive design tools with a diverse product range, setting a new benchmark in the industry.

This endeavor is about revolutionizing the online shopping experience, creating a platform where users not only find products but also bring their unique visions to life. Printoonistic is at the forefront, championing this new wave of personalized retail.

To actualize this vision, Printoonistic will develop an ecosystem that offers a plethora of customizable options, expert assistance, and a community for shoppers. It will not just fill the existing market gap but will pave the way for a future where everyone's personal style is reflected in the items they own.t

Research: Competitive & SWOT Analyses

The Souled Store

The Souled Store leverages its unique pop-culture-driven identity, but faces challenges due to its niche focus and reliance on fluctuating trends. Diversification into broader markets and strategic collaborations could mitigate these risks, while maintaining its creative stronghold.t

Bewakoof

Bewakoof’s distinctive direct-to-consumer approach and in-house production serve as its strengths. However, the competitive nature of the fashion industry and the need to maintain its unique brand voice present ongoing challenges. Exploring international markets and expanding its product range could offer new growth avenues.

User Surveys & Interviews

Leveraging insights from our competitive analysis, Printoonistic embarked on a user research phase, employing tools like SurveyMonkey and direct outreach through our well-established social media channels. We supplemented online surveys with in-depth interviews, engaging with a diverse group of 5 loyal customers for a more nuanced understanding of their needs.

These face-to-face sessions, conducted in informal settings, provided valuable feedback that was pivotal in refining our product offerings and enhancing the user experience on our platform.

User Survey Takeaways

In our survey, we opened with lifestyle and fashion-oriented questions to resonate with a broad audience. The feedback revealed a significant interest in personalized products and a desire for a platform that offered both quality and customization.

Interestingly, despite high enthusiasm, many did not frequently engage with online customization options, suggesting a potential gap in the market or a lack of awareness of such services. This insight is particularly revealing, indicating both demand for our unique offerings and the need for effective marketing strategies to raise awareness.

Card Sorts & Affinity Mapping

After the results, Guided by our user survey insights, we delved into card sorting and affinity mapping. This engaging and enlightening phase allowed us to immerse ourselves in our customers’ perspectives, bringing their preferences and expectations to the forefront.

Through this process, I not only categorized key features and content but also mapped out the emotional and practical pathways that our users navigate in their educational journey.

Meet the Users:
Personas, Task Flows, Journeys

Embracing the insights from our research, we approached the creation of user personas with a focus on the diverse lifestyles and fashion sensibilities of our target audience. These personas then guided the development of detailed task flows and customer journey maps, ensuring our design process remained anchored in real-world use cases.

We immersed ourselves in the environments our users frequent, from fashion forums to social media trends, to glean authentic perspectives that would inform our wireframing and ultimately lead to a platform that resonates on a personal level with each user.

In this way, I gained deep insights that helped me to create, or rather uncover, my personas for Printoonistic Store.

The insights I gathered during my research helped me develop 3 personas:

Vedant – The Ingenious Student

Isha – The Eco-conscious Professional

Nikhil – The Digital Maverick

Exploration, Ideation:
1A & Wireframes

In our exploration and ideation phase for Printoonistic Store, I focused on simplifying the customization process for our diverse range of products. We aimed to create an intuitive interface for users to upload their designs or photos, ensuring ease of use for personalized product creation.

A feature to save past designs to a library was also conceptualized to streamline repeat orders. During this phase, sketches and wireframes were diligently crafted, prioritizing a user-friendly experience for both new and returning customers navigating through the customization journey.

With these priorities in mind, initial sketches were drawn, leading to the development of the first set of wireframes.

In designing and developing our e-store, we aimed to create a user-friendly customization process. Users can effortlessly browse through our wide range of products, explore various customization options, and save their designs for future use. We implemented an intuitive booking feature, allowing users to browse and favorite different customization options, view detailed descriptions, and confidently proceed with their orders. The incorporation of clear descriptions throughout the process ensures a seamless user experience.

Additionally, we provided the option to save completed orders to the user’s account for easy reference and reordering. Our design concept for Printoonistic focuses on a light and bright aesthetic, offering a personalized touch to enhance user engagement. This approach was influenced by user feedback and our commitment to creating a unique and user-centric app.

We also adopted low-mid fidelity wireframes to clarify and define the app’s features, ensuring that our design prioritizes the user’s needs and preferences. These wireframes served as a foundation for creating mid-fidelity mockups that would be used in usability tests to further refine and optimize the user experience. Below, you can see a brief of my wireframes with interaction arrows.

Usability Testing

I conducted usability testing to gather feedback on the app's functionality and user experience. Using interactive prototypes created with Figma, I facilitated moderated, in-person usability tests with a diverse group of participants.

Each participant was presented with scenarios and tasks aimed at evaluating different aspects of the app's usability.

Scenario: Imagine you're a first-time user of the Printoonistic Store. You're curious to explore its features and create your first customized product.

Task 1: Begin the onboarding process and share your thoughts aloud as you navigate through it.

Task 2: Use the app to customize a product of your choice. Evaluate the ease of use and intuitiveness of the customization tools provided.

Task 3: Proceed to book a personalized product with a preferred customization option. Evaluate the booking process, focusing on clarity, ease of navigation, and any potential issues encountered.

Through these usability tests, valuable insights were gathered to refine and improve the user experience of the Printoonistic app, ensuring it meets the needs and expectations of its users effectively.

Usability Testing Results & Affinity Mapping

After conducting the usability test, I utilized affinity mapping techniques to organize the collected notes and feedback. This process helped identify common themes and issues observed during testing. Using Nielson’s Severity Rating Scale, I assessed the severity of errors and prioritized them for iteration, logging the findings into a Google Sheet for easy reference and tracking.

I conducted a preference test to gather feedback on design preferences. Participants were presented with variations of the app's background gradient, and their preferences were recorded. The insights gained from this test prompted a reevaluation of the UI design for Printoonistic, leading to potential refinements and improvements

Printoonistic taught me

I intuitively blazed a creative trail, steering away from a niche focus to embrace a diverse range of printing options. I am thrilled with the outcome, particularly the emphasis on connecting users with expert printers, addressing a common challenge in the printing industry – the lack of access to knowledgeable professionals for personalized assistance.

Embracing a user-centric design philosophy has always been integral to my approach. This belief guided my journey with Printoonistic, where I invested significant effort in understanding our users deeply before diving into the design process. By going beyond surface-level insights, I gained valuable insights into their needs, challenges, and preferences. This innate desire to empathize and connect with users not only enhances the design process but also makes crafting solutions a genuinely rewarding experience.
